In a context marked by the repeated assaults of the followers of the sect Boko Haram, the upsurge in cross-border crime, Secretary of State for defence in charge of the national gendarmerie (Sed), Jean-Baptiste Bokam, has been incisive in his recommendations.

Indeed, 30 officers who took part in the 35th stage of application of gendarmerie officers (SAOG), prescribed the implementation of the principle of proximity to gendarmerie, "which will acquire membership of the populations and information, useful data in contributing to the national effort against insecurity", said the SED.

To do this, mounted police officers need to know their field of intervention, make themselves well known by the people, to have an increased and reassuring presence on the ground.

Furthermore, Jean-Baptiste Bokam, insisting on the proximity of mounted police, instructed officers to "reduce delinquency and crime, giving back to the people the confidence and sense of security," because he hammered, "the Cameroon defence policy is at the grassroots”.

With regard to the strength of the received teachings, SED recalled the meaning of the supreme sacrifice that appeals to them, because "they are not to choose the missions that are entrusted to them, but to accept the sacrifices and constraints to serve Cameroon with honour and fidelity", he concluded.
