Boko Haram:Far North traditional rulers donate FCFA 10 mln

An amount of FCFA 10.150.000 was presented on Sunday to the Governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakari.

The National Council of Traditional Leaders of 1st and 2nd degrees of the Far North has just made its contribution in the war against Boko Haram. The contribution of over 10 million FCFA, handed to Governor Midjiyawa Bakari on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in Maroua, will help the efforts of the defense and security forces.

The delivery of this support ceremony was attended by the President of the National Council of Traditional Leaders of Cameroon, His Majesty Alim Hayatou, also Secretary of State, to the Ministry of Public Health, we learn in the columns Cameroon Tribune on newsstands this Tuesday, April 26, 2016.

Some officials of the defense forces engaged in the war against Boko Haram also took part in the ceremony like Colonel Joseph Nouma, commander of the alpha operation, many traditional leaders including Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, traditional leader of Mada ( Tokombere) and President of the National Assembly of Cameroon and Ayang Luc, traditional leader of Doukoula-Karhaï and Chairman of the Economic and Social Council of Cameroon.

According to Alim Hayatou, president of the National Council of Traditional Leaders, this gesture is in addition to many others that these donors have already made. Cameroon Tribune notes that “Traditional leaders are an important link in coordinating the collection and exploitation of information in neighborhoods and villages as part of the war against Boko Haram.“

According to the Governor Midjiyawa Bakari, to whom the gift was formally presented, “the traditional leaders of the Far North region have effectively contributed to the fight against Boko Haram, because it is they who select the first level members of the vigilante committees which have always provided us with good information to combat Boko Haram.

” The funds were publicly handed over to the General Treasurer in the region of the Far North for routing in the account provided for this purpose in the General Treasury in Yaounde, the newspaper said.
