The third session of the Cameroon-Nigeria Trans-border security meeting took place in Yaounde from 18th-20th February 2015.

The gathering was aimed at finding concrete solutions to the frequent security challenges along the maritime and land borders between the two countries at a time when the terrorist group Boko Haram has been launching a number of offensives.

The three-day meeting was also an opportunity for the two neighbouring countries to discuss issues relating to diplomacy and justice.

At the end of the discussions, the heads of the Cameroonian and Nigerian delegations, Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Rene Emmanuel Sadi and Major General Samuel John Babatunde respectively resolved to put in place strict security checks along the land and maritime borders.

Minister Rene Emmanuel Sadi, lauded the commitments of the experts hoping that the sitting in Yaounde becomes an added impetus in reviving the spirit of friendship and fraternity between Cameroon and Nigeria.

On his part, the leader of the Nigerian delegation, Major General Samuel John Babatunde promised his country`s determination to respect the resolutions of the meeting in order that both governments can guarantee their national territorial sovereignty.

The Trans-border security meeting was an ideal occasion for officials to size up destruction and the harm Boko Haram has caused to the civilian population on both sides of the border.
