Boko Haram: What really happened at Waza

The toll of the double bombings that struck on December 1, 2015, Waza in the Logone (Far North) continued to increase.

In its Thursday, December 3 edition, L’Oeil du Sahel reviewed the circumstances of the attack which President Paul Biya expressed his condolences to the families of victims.

According to residents of Waza, the insurgents wanted to "finish" with the local vigilance committees which accompany the authorities in the fight against terrorism.

The newspaper wrote: “according to consistent reports, the suicide bombers were caught by members of the local vigilance committee.”

"The city was barricaded in 19 hours and only the police and members of the vigilance committee were circulating. That is how a group of patriots fell on these women at the Walassa neighborhood,” said Harouna, a local resident. One of the bombers was neutralized, but she had the time to blow off her load. The explosion killed, on the spot, two members of the vigilance committee, Antar Boukar and Yaya Emat. Melé Modou who was seriously wounded died later in a hospital.”

Also according to the newspaper, “besides the suicide bomber who died in the coup, the violence of the explosion threw one of his two “colleagues on the ground. She lost consciousness. Later after she regained her consciousness, she was taken out of harm’s way by the army. Meanwhile, the third suicide bomber started running after the intervention of the vigilance committees. She entered the house of one Malla, located not far from where the first explosion occurred. The head of the family, who was kept awake after the first explosion, met the bomber in his abode.”

He spoke to her in Kanuri, imploring her out of his house when a noise from her dress was perfectly audible. During their loud dialogue, his family was able to get away,” said a family member.

"Not long after Malla locked the door to his room, the bomber decided to open another door to enter. That how when she detonated the bomb killing a total three people. They were Bana, Kaka Ali and Aissa.”
