Reports from the Far North Region says a gendarme officer and an inmate under detention have been shot dead and three others seriously injured in an attack at a Gendarmerie Brigade in Kousseri by Boko Haram militants.

Reports carried over the state radio, CRTV; early this morning say over 30 well armed Boko Haram militants stormed the brigade at about 2 am yesterday morning to rescue one of theirs who was arrested last Saturday with a cache of arms detained for the group.

The militants made away with arms and ammunitions of the Brigade. The government has tightened security in the area while Awah Fokam Augustine, Far North Governor has arrived in Kousseri to evaluate firsthand the situation on the ground.

Speaking at a press briefing hours after the attack yesterday, Government spokesman, Issa Tchiroma Bakary refuted allegation by Nigeria that a good number of the over 200 girls abducted at the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok Nigeria by the sect have been transferred to Cameroon and forced to marry members of the group. He said ‘Cameroon will never never become a base for terrorist to operate from’

The minister of Communication also used the briefing to throw more light on the recent operation by the military to free some 18 Cameroonians kidnapped in the East Region saying the military had acted timely and in a professional marner.
