British High Commissioner Evaluates Onshore Gas Project

It was with an expression of satisfaction that the British High Commissioner to Cameroon, His Excellency Bharat Joshi left the site of the Logbaba onshore gas plant, after a one-day working visit to the economic capital yesterday.

The giant project worth over 90 million dollars realised on a two-hectare land is aimed at producing up to one million standard cubic feet of gas per day, for both industrial and domestic uses. His Excellency Bharat Joshi described the objectives of the gas production unit as promoting new technologies, green economy, increased employment alongside production efficiency and output in enterprises. Likewise, the local population will benefit with regards to domestic uses in their homes. He equally situated the project as being in line with Cameroon government's Greater Realisations plan, which his country is ready to accompany.

In his introductory note, the Managing Director of the Rodeo Development Limited in charge of the project revealed that 30 kilometres of pipeline has been implanted in Douala, and three enterprises are already testing the gas. A remarkable advantage will be a 30% economy on their expenditures. Negotiations with 20 other enterprises are underway, he said, while 20 kilometres of gas pipeline will be extended to other part of the Region early next year. Meanwhile, consumers will benefit from a fixed sales price for the next five years.

Before saying quits, the officials were led in a guided tour of the site, preceded by explanations on precautionary measures to be applied during working and visiting hours.
