The Cameroon General Certificate of Examination (GCE) Board has released its findings on the results of Government Secondary School, Motombolombo, Tiko Subdivision in a communiqué signed by the Registrar, Humphrey Ekema Monono.
During the marking of the 2012 GCE Ordinary Level English Language Paper 2, an examiner reported suspected cases of collusion that is, copying. After close examination, the scripts were identified as belonging to the same school and the results were thus withheld for further investigations, led by a Sub-Committee set up by the Examinations Executive Committee (EEC).
The investigation, through examining the scripts and interrogating the Superintendent, the Chief of Centre, the invigilators and some candidates, revealed, amongst others, that 99 out of the 106 candidates who wrote the examination at GSS Motombolombo Tiko had the same introduction for Directed Writing; that the Chief of Centre scheduled one teacher, Mr. Obi Mbi, who holds a Degree in English to invigilate English Language, in violation of the Board's rule which forbids a teacher to invigilate his own subject.
The Sub-Committee thus resolved, amongst others, that there has been mass collusion among 99 candidates of GSS Motombolombo, Tiko; that during the conduct of the 2012 examination, the Superintendent and the Chief of Centre violated at least three rules governing the conduct of the GCE Board examination.
Consequently, the Board decided that the English Language results of all the candidates involved in the collusion are cancelled while the four teachers who invigilated the paper, the Superintendent and the Chief of Centre are banned from participating in any activities organised by the GCE Board for a period of three years each, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Board.
