resident Muhammadu Buhari and President Paul Biya of Cameroon will brief newsmen this morning on the agreements they reached at yesterday’s bilateral talks on how to strengthen existing ties between Nigeria and Cameroon, particularly, as it concerns common security challenges currently experienced by both nations.

Biya, accompanied by his wife, Chantal and senior Cameroonian government officials, arrived Abuja yesterday for his two-day working visit to Nigeria on the invitation of President Buhari and was received at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

Both leaders and their officials later entered into closed door sessions to discuss issues of common interest to both countries, including ongoing bilateral and regional cooperation against terrorism, violent extremism and cross-border crimes.

The leaders are expected to hold a joint press conference at the Hilton this morning, where a communique would be issued before Biya’s departure.

It is expected that new agreements to strengthen existing ties, as well as trade and economic relations between Nigeria and Cameroon, would be concluded and signed before the end of President Biya’s visit.

Nigeria and Cameroon share common security challenges as members of the Boko Haram sect have been reported to carry out attacks in the two countries.
