Bwassa village gets military man as chief

29-year-old John Ewome Eko, a military officer with the Rapid intervention Unit at Man ‘O’ War Bay in Limbe has been enthroned and installed as the new Chief of Bwassa Village in Buea subdivision.

He was enthroned by his royal peers and commissioned by the Divisional Officer for Buea, Paul Kouam Wokam, Friday, October 31, 2014 during a colourful ceremony attended by members of the rank and file, the Bwassa populace and graced by the Presence of the mayor of Buea, Patrick Ekema Esunge.

HRH Chief Ewome Eko replaces his father, late Chief EwomeNjie who passed away on November 9, 2008.

Chief Ewome Eko therefore has the task of mobilising the sons and daughters of Bwassa village who number about 1,600 to return to the village so that development can follow.

He will see to it that the road leading to the village is given attention that the health centre which is almost non-functional gets electricity and is equipped, as well as pray that the 2019 African Nations Cup will leave a development mark on the face of Bwassa.

For a people whose main economic activity is farming and animal husbandry, the Divisional Officer urged the third class chief of Bwassa to fight petty crime, wage war on the smoking of ‘banga’ and the excessive consumption of alcohol. The new chief was also told to discourage “come we stay” marriages.

The DO told the chief to handle land matters with fairness and to avoid fighting with his subjects, urging him to embrace dialogue as a weapon to solve all disputes should they arise.

He was described by the DO as an ambitious and loyal person, but was advised that leading a village is not the same like heading a military command. Chief John EwomeEko was born on June 1, 1986. He did his primary education at Presbyterian Primary School (PS) Buea Town where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate, before moving to obtain a CAP certificate in wood works at Government Technical High School (GTHS) Ombe.

He joined the military in 2005 and graduated as a Comando from the military training centre in Kutaba in 2007 before he was transferred to the services of the military at Man O War Bay in Limbe.

Chief Ewome Eko is married and a father of three.
