CARE trains civil society leaders on leadership

Through an investigation carried out by Care Cameroon, it was realised that civil society organisations involved in the Global Fund project are lacking in terms of functioning and leadership with respect to achieving the results of the Global Fund.

As a result, a four-day workshop to strengthen the capacities of civil society organisation leaders involved in the Global Fund programme in the areas of leadership, governance and advocacy, began on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in Yaounde.

The workshop which brought together leaders and women of associations dealing with persons living with HIV is aimed at reinforcing the quality of their work and credibility in front of the different decision-making bodies with the Global Fund.

For four days, a development consultant, Mary Bakia Moulobe, has been drilling participants on leadership roles and coaching as a tool in development. The consultant said that leaders are neither autocrats nor managers.

She stressed that a leader does not lead alone. “As a leader, you are obliged to work with people and in doing so, one needs to know their opinion about whatever decision he/she takes. Participants are also being taught on how to use the human rights based approach which is one of the keys of the Global Fund project since it deals with vulnerable people living with HIV and who need special care."

It is expected that at the end of the workshop, participants will practically implement knowledge gained, take decisions within the Global Fund project while ensuring changes within the organisations at the level of individuals and the organisation itself.
