Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi opened a five-day training seminar in Yaounde on November 17.
Senior staff of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) are currently taking lessons on the functioning of internal audit and good management practices in finance and accounting. Since the creation of CCAA in 2000, the establishment has been functioning with the private accounting system. Since it switched to the public accounting system in 2012, authorities of the structure thought it wise to acquaint senior staff with audit techniques and good finance and account management skills to curb any shortcomings before an external audit is carried out by the Supreme State Audit.
Presiding over the five-day training workshop, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Supreme State Audit, Henri Eyebe Ayissi expressed their commitments to help build the capacities of both public and Para-public structures on internal audit. "It is one of permanent missions of the Supreme State Audit to train senior staff on internal audit techniques before we assume the external control," he said. He congratulated the General Manager and the Board Chair of CCAA for the initiative to train their staff as the structure plays a unique role in ensuring security in air transport to other countries.
The General Manager of CCAA, Tankam Pierre revealed during the pioneer training session that it is timely since they are going into the 2014 budgetary year. According to him the long awaited capacity-building workshop will give senior staff the necessary tools to be able to anticipate any financial or accounting problem that might occur before an external audit is carried out. He made known that money is not the quantity an organisation has, but how what it has is managed. On why it took more than 10 years for the establishment to train its staff to that effect, Tankam Pierre said since they switched from a private to a public system of accounting in 2012, they needed time and human resources to coordinate all the necessary aspects. That is why we solicited the expertise of the Supreme State Audit, he added. The seminar organised by CCAA with the support of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Supreme State Audit saw the participation of the Board Caiman of CCAA, Nkoue Nkongo Maximin-Paul.
