The National President of the Cameroon Democratic Union, (CDU) Dr. Adamou Ndam Njoya has exhorted Cameroonians to affirm their commitment to republican values by upholding citizenship and patriotic virtues. He was addressing party adherents in Yaounde on Friday March 4, 2016 during a meeting held at the party headquarters to commemorate the 23rd edition of the Republican Day.
According to Dr Ndam Njoya, the absence of these values would lead to a fractured society and irrelevant debates which will derail Cameroonians from the real problems of the time. One of such ongoing debate he said is the call by the supporters of the ruling party on the Head of State to present his candidacy in an anticipated election. This, to the CDU Chairman, is diverting attention of Cameroonians from the debating on real issues which will provide solutions and harmony to the nation. Issues such as education, health, economic development should take the pride of place among topical debates. Moral and ethical values should be cultivated to stimulate republican, citizenship and patriotic dynamism.
Also present during the reflection was the National President of the Alliance for Progressive Forces, APF, Alice Sadio, who corroborated that the regime is diverting attention by engaging in a fake debate given that they are calling on someone whose party status already makes him a natural candidate. She said the debate now is supposed to focus on fundamental republican issues. The Republican Day that provided the opportunity for reflections and exchanges held on the theme “Problems and Solutions linked to Political carpet-crossing”.
