Experts in the energy sector in the Central African Community CEMAC have agreed on an implementation plan that will run from 2014-2030 under the code name “Strategic Document for the Regional Energy Policy of the Central African Power Pool”.
During the four day concertation meeting in Yaounde, (4-7 November 2014) participants proposed the implementation of the energy strategy programme in two phases as a means to ease execution
The first phase runs from 2014-2019 and consists of finalising strategic document like the master plan and updating certain fundamental documents on electricity.
Within this time, the Central African Energy Pool (CAPP) will focus on developing infrastructure and energy transportation network.
The second segment runs from 2020-2030 and encompasses inter-state connection of electricity and trans-border electrification.
Thirty million US Dollars (about FCFA 15.8 billion) will be needed to complete both segments of the projects.
Experts say mobilising the sum needs synergy by all actors and a clear vision of priority projects to be executed.
The Inspector General in the Ministry of Water and Energy, Huges Ngadeu Molapie cautioned the competent authorities in the Yaounde meeting to put recommendations into practice so that the Central African Sub-region should fully exploit its energy resources for a speedy socio-economic development.
Recommendations derived from the Yaounde meeting will be presented to the Ministers of Energy in the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) for approval during the December 2014 meeting in Ndjamena.
