A memorandum of understanding for a gift of Chinese military hardware worth 2.5 billion was signed Thursday between the MINDEF and Ambassador Wo Ruidi.

With an amount of 30 million Yuan, or more than 2.5 billion, this material is intended for the Cameroon Navy. The document was signed by the Minister delegate at the Presidency in charge of defence (Mindef), Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o on the Cameroonian side, and Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cameroon, H.E. Wo Ruidi.

In welcoming the significant gift which aims to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Cameroonian Navy, Mindef extended 'deep gratitude from the president of the Republic, head of the armed forces, H.E Paul Biya for this additional event that illustrates the exemplary nature of relations of cooperation between China and Cameroon.'

He also hailed this gift which comes as an addition to others who aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries. For his part, Ambassador Wo Ruidi sent his country's gratitude to head of the Cameroonian State "for efforts to liberate compatriots who were freed after nearly seven months of captivity." On the other hand, the Chinese diplomat praised military cooperation "which is getting stronger every day."

Alain Mebe Ngo'o indicated that the material offered by his country will strengthen the capacity of the Cameroonian Navy against maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. The military cooperation between the two countries will still take the magnitude with the visit Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o will perform in this country in the coming days.
