CMR gets FCFA 70m to manage organic pollutant

During a seminar to elaborate on a strategy to ensure the effective implementation of the ban on non biodegradable plastics, development partners have pledged financial assistance of 70 million CFA francs to help Cameroon successfully eradicate persistent organic pollutants.

The Minister of Environment, nature Protection and Sustainable dev't, Pierre Helle, has intensified measures to enhance the ban on the production, use and storage of organic pollutants in the country.

At the opening of the seminar, Minister Hele Pierre stressed on the need for a more aggressive approach in the handling and management of pollutants, within the country. He indicated that, the move is in line with the Stockholm Convention on the elimination of persistent organic pollutants which Cameroon is trying to ratify.

Experts explained that the pollutants have devastating effects on the environment as well as on human health.
