Eximbank USA and Société Générale, two banks from America and France respectively have signed a financing agreement amounting to over 36 billion CFA francs with the government to improve the water supply in the country.
This funding, according to the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (CAMWATER), will increase about 55,000 cubic meters per day production capacity of water treatment units in Mefou and Akomnyada in Central Region with a capacity of 150,000 m3 in total, to strengthen the supply of drinking water in Yaounde, the capital and its surroundings.
CAMWATER, the public company in charge of managing water supply related infrastructure in Cameroon, reassure the public that the project will be completed by the end of 2015.
The same sources reveal that the water supply will be able to meet 90 percent of the drinking water demand of the capital until 2020.
