Independent workers like truck pushers, barbers, traders, amongst others in the informal sector will as from November 3, be given the opportunity to register with the National Social Insurance Fund, CNPS, the director general of the fund, Noël Alain Olivier Mekulu Mvondo Akame has announced.

The CNPS director general made the pronouncement last Wednesday in Yaounde at the conference hall of the social insurance center for the Centre, while launching an information and awareness campaign.

The move to extend social coverage to interested individuals comes after a prime ministerial order of August 13, 2014.

While indicating that the prime ministerial order establishes justice and equity in the social security system of Cameroon, Mekulu expressed satisfaction and noted that at least 80% of the population will finally be able to benefit from social coverage.

According to the director general of CNPS, his services had worked very hard for the implementation of the voluntary insurance scheme and all essential technical parameters were already in place.

Mekulu noted that as from Monday November 3, all 33 social insurance centers of CNPS will be able to receive and process all application files of Cameroonians for the voluntary insurance scheme.

For his part, the CNPS technical adviser, George Eric Bowen said all manner of procedures, printed and translated forms, computer applications were already put in place after two months of intensive work.

CNPS teams will be on the field throughout the country in the coming days and street offices will be deployed even in the most remote areas to sensitise and carry out the registration, we gathered.

Also, The Guardian Post further learned that thanks to modern and efficient information system, voluntarily insured persons could verify their accounts through the CNPS website, just like compulsory insured persons.
