Chairman of the National Commission against Corruption has slammed the ongoing investigation into salaries, bonuses and allowances of workers of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, commonly known by its French acronym, CONAC.

Dieudonné Massi Gams has criticised inquiries prompted by the upper state-controlled Consupe, which for him was requested by lobbies who were disgruntled by results found by the anti-corruption body and is essentially only going to weaken CONAC.

The anger of the Commission is also related to the fact that the remunerations of its members and the unjustified mission expenses of the order of 40 million have been published in the local press.

The state inspectors have also noted the disappearance of nearly 200 million FCFA that CONAC was supposed to have returned to the treasury.

The upper state control did not wish to formally respond to accusations that its inspectors had leaked information to journalists slandering the company at the heart of an investigation dubbed as a war of supremacy by local media.

It did however add that the Consupe was just doing its job in controlling a Cameroonian institution managing public funds.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission was created in 2006 with the mission to assess the effective implementation of the government's plan to fight against corruption and to investigate all cases of corruption or facts proved.

It has allowed the state to save nearly $35 billion as part of major projects but since its inception it has also often been accused of its amateurish shine.
