CPDM private member bills record setback at National Assembly

A private member bill deposited at the National Assembly during this June Ordinary Session by the Parliamentary Group of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party to amend the Standing Orders of this Lower House of Parliament has recorded a major setback.

The revelation was made in an exclusive interview granted The SUN by the Vice President of the National Assembly, Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam of the Social Democratic Front, SDF party last July 3 at the Ngoa Ekelle Glass House.

While dismissing rumour entertained by the public that a private member bill has sailed through in the National Assembly, Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam explained that “Indeed, some private member bills were deposited by the CPDM Group in respect of the Standing Orders of the House.

But when we came to study them, they quickly concocted arguments that caused the whole thing to be suspended and the bills suddenly withdrawn. It looks like it was not properly done and so they may be trying to redo them now.”

He further explained that “As for the other ones they like to respect the fact that since the Standing Orders say if two sessions expire when you have put in a private member bill, it will be examined as of right during the 3rd session so we are quietly waiting for November to see what will become of it.”
