The written part of the 2013 Cameroon General Certificate of Education, GCE started in calm and serenity in the North West Regional capital of Bamenda yesterday May 27, 2013. Students of both the Ordinary and Advanced level were writing Economics paper I.

During a sojourn in some schools yesterday morning, CT realised that the examinations kicked off at 8am as expected. Prior to that, some students had to verify their names and locate their classes as per their candidate number. And by 8am they started writing the first paper. During CT's stop at GBHS Ntamulung Bamenda which accommodates some 684 internal and 169 external O level candidates, it was total peace on campus. According to the superintendent sent to GBHS Ntamulung, Johnson Mbakwa, no incident was recorded as all the students were aware of the stakes. He acknowledged that some absences were recorded but added that all was going on well. Still in GBHS Ntamulung Bamenda some 586 candidates were sitting in for the Baccalaureat examinations. They occupied some 19 classrooms with some 42 invigilators. According to the chief of mission from the BAC Board, some seven students were absent and all was going on well.

In Progressive Comprehensive High School, PCHS, Bamenda which is the biggest accommodation centre in the country, over 3,339 students were taking the examinations with 1,658 sitting in for Ordinary level and 776 sitting in for Advanced level. The Chief of Centre, Azeh David Mofor emphasised that all the students were meticulously checked at the gate to ensure that they do not enter with pre-prepared materials.
