The visit of the Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Irina Georgieva Bokova to Cameroon, further strengthens the links between the country and UNESCO.

During the 48-hour visit scheduled to start on 15th September 2014, the UNESCO boss will get acquainted with the UNESCO structures and policies in Cameroon, which have gone a long way to tighten the Cameroon-UNESCO friendship.

Her visit comes 5 years after her predecessor visited Cameroon and was so much appreciated by President Paul Biya, who described the August guest as “exemplary”.

UNESCO in Cameroon has been at the forefront of strategic activities to ensure that the country pursues the 2015 Millenium Development Goals, through the institution of universal-free elementary education, eliminating gender disparity and combating HIV/AIDS and malaria amongst others.

UNESCO has boosted Cameroon with the appointment of First Lady Madame Chantal Biya as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, the creation of the Dja Faunal Reserve which is one the World’s Heritage Centers and the location of the Multi Sectoral Office for Central Africa in Cameroon.

UNESCO in Cameroon has for long been involved in the creation of conditions for genuine dialogue based upon respect and dignity of each civilisation and culture.

Cameroon has also experienced quality education both at the elementary and higher levels, sustainable development and the promotion of cultural diversity and intellectual dialogue. All these and more thanks to the relations Cameroon has built with UNESCO.
