The first ever international avian trade fair has ended with the poultry sector renewing its prospects.
The avian fair which took place from 23rd to 25th October 2014 in Yaounde, brought together exhibitors from Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Nigeria, Gabon, France, Italy and Turkey.
During the event the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taiga urged Cameroon’s 9000 poultry farmers to use the show as forum to upgrade the industry, an industry which according to projections, is capable of feeding not only Cameroonians but Central Africa as a whole.
The exhibition served as platform for exchange of ideas between producers and researchers in poultry breeding.
Foreign breeders present at the show ground, exhibited different feed and technologies hoped to boost poultry production in the country.
Local farmers all agreed that if standards are respected, their production could be competitive on the international market.
The show comes at a time when the Cameroon poultry sector is experiencing a relative boom with close to 9000 associations that account for over 350.000 jobs.
