Cameroon bankrolls CFA 30.5b for CAR peacekeeping

Cameroon’s leader Paul Biya has instructed his Economy, Planning and Land Development Minister to sign with Commerzbank Paris a financial agreement of about CFA 30.5 billion to support countries participating in peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic (CAR).

It could be recalled that since 2008, Cameroon has been participating in peace-building missions in neighbouring CAR, along with other members of the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), through a 107-strong contingent.

It also sent in June 2013, 837 soldiers and police officers to participate in the African-led International Support Mission to the Central African Republic (MISCA).

Since last year, Cameroon’s major-general Tumentah Martin Chomu has been appointed commander of MISCA, a mission placed under the aegis of the United Nations.
