The first phase of the three day Campaign against Poliomyelitis in Cameroon has ended

The first phase of the campaign which started Friday 19th September to the 21st of September 2014 was carried out in all the ten regions of Cameroon and all countries in the Central African Sub-region.

This campaign was launched under the team: “Together let’s continue to vaccinate all our children from 0-5years to stop the spread of Polio.”

The Minister of Public Health Andre Mama Fouda during the launch invited all stake holders to contribute in eradication against the infection that has a very devastating effect on children.

In order to get more aggressive with the campaign, health officials are shuttling between private homes, schools and markets to get as many children as possible.

The campaign has been triggered by the fact that five cases of Polio infection were registered January 2014 in Cameroon. The discovery has heightened government’s resolve to stamp out the infection nationwide

The resident representative of WHO Charlotte Faty Ndiaye present during the launch hailed government for her determination in fighting against Polio.

She hoped parents shall heed to the call from the Ministry of public Health to take all children in need, to be vaccinated.

The second phase of this campaign comes up on the 31st of October to the 2nd of November 2014.

Since Poliomyelitis can be barred, and since Cameroon has sincerely taken the responsibility of eradicating it from children, there should be no tangible reason why parents should fail from vaccinating their babies when the vaccine is free of charge.
