Cameroon drops by two places in its human dev't index

In the 2013 human development report from the United Nations Programme for development (UNDP), Cameroon featured around the 150th place in terms of human development index (HDI).

Mean while, in the 2014 report, published 24 July on the theme "Perpetuate human progress: reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen resilience ', UNDP moved Cameroon from the 150th to the 152nd position in a total of 187 countries taken into account in the ranking. Cameroon now falls in the category of countries with "low human development" with an index of 0.540.

Within the Economic Community of West African States, Gabon is top at the 112th position, followed by Congo at the 140th position and lastly Equatorial Guinea which features on the 144th position. Cameroon beats Chad (184th) and the Central African Republic (185th).

In Africa, Libya tops the lead as it is classified in the 55th place within the category of countries with "high human development", followed by Seychelles (71st), Tunisia (90th), South Africa (118th) and Cape Verde (123rd). In 2013, Norway had the best HDI with a value of 0.944. The Nordic country is ranked 1st in 2014 in the UNDP human development report.

Overall, sub-Saharan Africa with its 46 countries still remains the most trolling region in the world. Here, the life expectancy at birth is 56.8 years while South Asia has 66.4 and 74.2 years for Latin America and the Caribbean. Gross national income per capita was $3152 in 2013 compared 5195 dollars in South Asia or 15.817 dollars in the Arab States.
