The état-major of Cameroon plans to put all his forces within a single yet effective operational command. The measure according to him shall be applied as early as August 1 in the extreme north of the country, an area particularly exposed to the onslaught of the Islamist sect Boko Haram.

The purpose of this operational command is to reduce the spreading of resources to increase efforts in tracking down Boko Haram militants. The decision came after findings indicated the lack of collaboration on the field, particularly as pertains the intelligence and the dissemination of information.

So with the imposition of operational command, the police, the gendarmerie, counter-intelligence and the administration will be under an obligation to communicate information to the operational units in the field. And according to Yaoundé, this tightening will permit the reduction of weaknesses of its own device and will better place them against the Islamist sect.

On Friday, July 18, Boko Haram attacked a police station in the North of the country killing a police officer and seriously injuring another. The police intervened at the border village of Kit, not too far from Nigeria. The area of Amchide, where they were conducting their patrol, is an important spot for exchanges and thus make control a little bit difficult. This is an indication that the battle is far from being won.
