Cameroon slaughtered the entire stock of its largest poultry farm due to a suspected outbreak of bird flu, according to the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries.

The Complexe Avicole de Mvog-Betsi farm in Yaounde, the capital, lost 15,000 of its 33,000 fowls after they probably succumbed to the avian disease, Minister Taiga, who has only one name, told reporters. The ministry has not yet determined the exact cause of the “abnormally high mortality” of the birds, he said.

The government slaughtered the remaining birds on the farm and incinerated all carcasses as part of measures to contain the disease, Taiga said.
