A second deep-sea port estimated at 602 million US dollars, will be built by a Korean company in Limbe (South-West). APA learnt about this development on Monday from the Minister of economy, planning and territorial development.
This infrastructure, carried out by an entity known as Limbe Port & Industrial Development (LIPID) is within the context of a contract signed in November 2013. It will specialize in the transport of heavy products such as oil, cement, containers and agricultural products.
This project in addition to the deep sea port in Kribi (South), is intended to ease congestion problems of Douala port, located a hundred kilometers square away.
The strategic position of Limbe opens more opportunities as its close to neighbouring Nigeria. As part of the project, there will be the construction of a floating Jetty multifunctional on the same site. LIPID looks to develop this part in a period of 6 months and it is estimated at 35 million US dollars. This is intended to accommodate ships of 20,000 tonnes.
