Cameroonian writer joins fight against corruption

A Cameroonian writer, Sammy Oke Akombi, has joined in the fight against corruption through his book, “The Wages of Corruption”, launched on Friday 29th August, 2014 at the Contemporary Arts Gallery in Yaounde.

The 128-page publication consists of thirteen short stories revealing situations of corruption in different sectors of society with the aim of discouraging its practice.

The stories expose corruption by politicians, civil servants and leaders, as well as in the educational system; a situation that many Cameroonians consider disheartening.

According to the author, the book was written to enable Cameroonians gauge the negative impact of corruption.

Sammy Akombi, during the launch, stated that the book is not restricted to highlighting the situation but on each case, gives the reader an idea on how to counter the situation.

In attendance during the launch were members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of anti-corruption institutions in the country and lovers of creative writing.

The theme that ran through the book launch, “Corruption-free Cameroon is Heaven on Earth”, is a pointer to the challenges in the fight against corruption in the country.
