The Cameroon Coordinator for Migration Development Programme, MDP, Dr. Didier Djoumessi, has called on Cameroonians in the diaspora, especially Germany, to invest at home and contribute to the country’s emergence.

He made the call on November 27 in Yaounde, while presenting the importance of the Migration Programme to the Press.

“This Programme helps to integrate migrants who are entrepreneurs and returning experts to their country of origin, after their experience abroad.

This is because we believe that these people can make sustainable contribution to the Cameroon’s economy, if they are integrated professionally. For you to know what you can do for Cameroon, you need to be in Cameroon,” he stated.

Djoumessi, however, expressed regret that, despite the close to 17,000 Cameroonians living in Germany, among who are more than 6,000 students, only few individuals are willing to transfer the knowledge they have gained to their country of origin.

He said the programme intends to use this year’s upcoming ‘PROMOTE’ to attract Cameroonians living in the diaspora to bring their know-how and experience back home. The MDP official said PROMOTE will also be a platform to draw the attention of the authorities, which can facilitate the integration of these experts when they decide to return home.

Elaborating on this year’s MDP PROMOTE theme which is; “Migration, Diaspora and Innovation: A major Asset for Cameroon’s Emergence,” Djoumessi said the fundamental idea behind the MDP is to make most of the potentials by focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship.

He said the programme will assist Cameroonians who have innovative business ideas that can boost development, promote economic growth and create jobs.

To him, Cameroonians abroad can make a difference in the country, if their know–how and experiences are transferred sustainably.
