Two Cameroonians have been awarded the British Chevening Scholarship.
The award ceremony was organized by the British High Commissioner H.E Brian Olley in the presence of state dignitaries including the Minister of Communication Issa Tchiroma Bakary, representatives of the Minister of Higher Education, the Minister of Women Empowerment and Family and members of the Chevening Scholarship Alumni Association.
The beneficiaries of this scholarship are Monique Kwachou- Administrative assistant at the University of Buea and the Fon of Babessi- His Royal Highness Oliver Tchofoua.
Monique Kwachou begins a Master of Arts Degree Program on Gender and International Development at the London Institute of Education
His Royal Highness Oliver Tchofoua has been admitted for a Master of Science in Drilling and Well Engineering at the Robert Gordon University in Britain.
During the Award and send off ceremony, the British High Commissioner and Minister of Communication handed certificates to the Laureates, credit cards and pins that officially recognizes them as Chevening scholars representing their country.
The Chevening Scholarship was put in place 30years ago. It is intended to strengthen educational and cultural ties between the United Kingdom and Developing countries.
The two Laureates are henceforth part of a global network made up of approximately 4,300 scholars from 150 countries.
The High Commissioner revealed that funding for the scholarship has increased; accordingly, fifteen Cameroonians shall be retained during the 2015/2016 session.
