Campaign against cyber criminals launched in Buea

Cyber experts and judicial and security officials have recently concerted in a meeting to trap down cyber criminals in Buea in the South West Region.

Participants at the meeting which was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea Professor Nalova Lyonga, brainstormed on ways of punishing fake cyber dealers who have ruined many individuals and cooperate bodies.

During the meeting, it was revealed that one of the country’s biggest agro industrial outfits has suffered from cyber criminals who pretended to carry out online recruitment on behalf of the cooperation with an amount of 28,000FCFA.

Experts also disclosed that banks and other financial institutions within the region have also sustained wounds from the pangs of cyber criminals.

Private individuals are not exempted from falling prey to cyber criminals. These illicit cyber dealers ruin businesses, steal protected data and empty people’s bank accounts.

Reports say most cyber criminals are students especially graduates and drop outs who find it as an easier means to make fast money.

A participant at the meeting, Madame Ali Joan insisted on collaboration among the forces of law and order in order to track down cyber criminals.

She further reiterated on the need to train authorities on better ways of trapping down such criminals.
