Authorities of Government Technical College GTC Bombe Bakundu, along the Kumba –Buea highways in Mbonge Sub Division blame the low enrolment into the institution on what they describe as dilapidated wooden classrooms harbouring the about 300 students in the school this academic year.

The semi permanent building fondly called ‘’carrabot’’ currently hosting the school is an eyesore. In short, the school is seriously begging for government intervention. There are no benches and the college has been forgotten by government.

GTC Bombe Bakundu was created by a Prime ministerial Decree No 2005/24/5 of 27/06/2005 and authorized to open by ministerial decree of 510/06/MINESEC of 11/08/2006.

Speaking to THE SUN in his office Monday 6th, October 2014, the Principal of the college, Abunaw Aghim Obase hinted that, ever since the college went operational, he has never benefited from any state credit for the acquisition of infrastructure, equipment, workshop training materials, but for one unequipped workshop, thus causing a poor success rate in the end if course examination.

The Principal opined that, there are about six semi permanent classrooms constructed by the community, which are already in an ‘epileptic ‘stage. He narrated that, it is common in the area to hear parents just like children saying authoritatively that ‘I cannot send my child to a ‘carrabot’ school, referring to GTC Bombe Bakundu’.

The situation of the school is appalling in such a way that the students even find it difficult to sit and listen to lectures due to lack of benches. Thanks to the PTA, the Principal disclosed, some 30 benches were handed to the school recently to solve the situation.

He also disclosed that he has addressed numerous correspondences to the-powers-that-be, concerning the unfortunate situation of the school, and hopes that the cry of the school will be heard and a lasting solution provided.

On his part the PTA President Dibongue Ebenezar, hinted that despite the fact that GTC Bombe Bakundu is the largest in terms of enrolment in Meme Division as regards GTC’s, it’s rather unfortunate that the school has been abandoned to herself.

He observed only the community has been taking interest about the existence of the school. He corroborated the Principal and added that the classrooms are virtually an eyesore and during the wet season, the students study only by the grace of God.

Also, according to the Principal, the PTA is really finding it difficult to manage the nine PTA Teachers of the school.

The Traditional Ruler of Bombe Bakundu,HRH Chief Duala Rudolf Itoe, cum President General of the Bakundu Chiefs Conference, regretted the fact that the school is in that present situation some ten years after her creation.

He disclosed that several calls have been made to government to rescue the situation but till date, nothing concrete is really being done.

The retired Senior Civil Administrator cum President of Konye Council Tenders Board, opined that he is optimistic that the government will do something, since government machinery move slowly but surely.
