Catholic Church Claims Sarah Etonge's Land

The ace mountaineer's house in Molyko Buea, was built and offered by the Cameroon Athletics Federation last January.

A piece of land covering two and half hectares, reportedly bought by the Catholic Church in Molyko-Buea about a decade ago and now occupied by the house of ace mountaineer, Sarah Liengu Etonge, has surfaced an ugly head. The Catholic Church is now seeking a land certificate for the piece of land as they claim they had previously begun the process.

Four years ago, the Church undertook the construction of a mammoth Co-cathedral on the site which is today very visible though not completed on the land situated on the road to Bokova, near the Molyko Municipal stadium. It is said to have cost the Church over FCFA 35 million.

Visibly, too, on the Cathedral yard has been erected an announced FCFA dozen million house whose keys the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Adoum Garoua, handed over to the ace mountaineer, Sarah Etonge Liengu during the February 2014 Guinness Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. This followed a long-drawn promise by the Cameroon Athletics Federation to offer the ace runner a befitting home.

When the Buea Divisional Officer, Paul Wokam Kouam, mobilised to the site under the instructions of the Governor last week, the Traditional ruler of Molyko was not available. Another rendez-vous has been fixed for tomorrow, May 15, 2014 when the demarcation shall be effected and a subsequent land title certificate established. But who will own the patch of land, the Catholic as first buyer or Liengu as occupant?
