Catholic University of Central Africa Gearing Towards Cultural Diversity

The Nkolbisson campus of the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC) was exceptionally busy yesterday Wednesday October 31, 2012. The event was the solemn reopening of the 2012-2013 academic of the institution.

This year's event comes on the heels of UCAC's 20th anniversary celebrations last May 2011. Student dance groups could be spotted on campus as they danced to celebrate the reopening of the new school year. Theme for this year was "University and Development". The event began with opening prayers in English, French and Latin for God's guidance and assistance throughout the 2012-2013 academic year.

Speaking during the occasion, Professor Dr. Benjamin Alexandre Nkoum gave an inaugural lesson on the theme "Health and Development". UCAC's Rector, Rev. Fr. Richard Filakota called on the higher education community to continue to support UCAC as they have always done. On his part, the Grand Chancellor of UCAC, Mgr Victor Tonye Bakot called on students, lecturers and administrative staff to work hard for serenity and peace in order to attain excellence.

The Inspector of Academic Affairs in the Ministry of Higher Education who represented the Minister, Professor Marcel Fouda urged officials and students of UCAC to uphold the fundamental values of the institution. He congratulated the officials of UCAC for designing a development plan which makes UCAC stand out as the higher education locomotive of the Central African Sub-region. He assured the institution of the continuous support of the Ministry of Higher Education as they strive to achieve their goals.

The event took place in the presence of officials of the Centre Region, representatives of the diplomatic corps, several intellectuals as well as eminent scholars and guests.
