Officers and Sub officers of the Gendarmerie Legion, Centre Region have been urged by President Paul Biya through the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o, to obey and respect the newly appointed Commander of the Legion, Col. Fabien Stephan Mekulu.

The instruction came Friday July 13 at the court yard of the Yaounde Town Hall during the official commissioning of the new Legion Commander, appointed on June 21 by Presidential decree replacing Col. Roger Pierre Atangana who moves to Congo Kinshasa as pioneer Head of Military Mission in the Cameroon Embassy that covers Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Yaounde harbours heads of diplomatic missions to Cameroon, State institutions, persons and goods, the Minister said. Being a cosmopolitan town therefore, the task is daunting, he pointed out. The new commander must invest in the fight against indiscipline, ensure social peace and cohesion, discourage the phenomenon of fake bodyguards and public disorder. Fabien Stéphane Mekulu needs to eradicate criminality and organised crime. In order to achieve all of these, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o instructed Col. Fabien Stéphane Mekulu to remain loyal, work in synergy with hierarchy and other forces to safeguard all institutions like the Delegate General for National Security. The 55-year old new Commander was warned to preach by example while executing his functions.

After handing over the command baton to Col. Fabien Stephan Mekulu, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o challenged him to continue in the same spirit as his predecessor. He however congratulated the out gone and incoming on behalf of the Head of State for their brilliant assistance during national events.
