The Centre Region has organised week-long activities in prelude to the 33rd edition of the World Tourism Day to be celebrated on September 27 on the theme "Tourism and renewable energy." Prominent activities during the preparation will feature a debate "tourism and sustainable energy" which according to the Regional Delegate of Tourism and Leisure for the Centre, Amougou Atangana Rachael, falls in line with the World Tourism Organisation.
Speaking during a press breifing in Yaounde yesterday September 3, she said there is the need to protect biodiversity by using renewable fuel. Though renewable fuel is still expensive to many, the delegate said sensitisation on the use of the fuel will better protect and conserve the biodiversity.
Other highlights during the fourth preparatory meeting included excursion to IRAD, round table conferences and an open-door day. The election of Miss Tourism, a fitness walk from Hôtel de Ville to the Reunification Monument, the display and sale of circuits and other touristy products as well as a gala night have been earmarked.
In attendance were the Divisional Delegates who gave a balancesheet of activities organised at Divisional levels and the difficulties they have been encountering especially financial. For a hitch-free celebration, the Centre Region has created numerous committees for decentralisation and transparency purposes. The commemorative activities end four days to the D-day.
