Chadian troops have taken up positions in Waza, Far North where it is reported that there are constant attacks by the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram to reinforce the Cameroonian army to secure the border on Monday, security sources reported.
These forces include deployed Salé, border town of Gambaru in Nigeria, about 30 km from Waza within Cameroon, known to be easy to access because its flat floor is conducive for the incursions of Boko Haram reported Xinhua.
According to them, apart from Waza which is in the same location as the national park is at risk of attacks, as well as Fotokol, Amchide or Dabanga and other locations in the Far North which have become prime targets of Nigerian jihadists in Cameroon.
Chadian forces have been present in the neighboring country since mid-January. They have joined the Cameroonian army in Waza, consisting of the base of Rapid Battalion Intervention (BIR, a special force) and a gendarmerie brigade to strengthen the framework following the announcement of Islamist attacks there about three weeks.
It is precisely in this area that a dozen Chinese workers of a road construction site were kidnapped in May 2014 and was the site of the last attack of Boko Haram in the country on February 16, the same day on the Extraordinary Summit of the Peace and Security Council of Central Africa (COPAX) held in Yaounde for an assistance strategy by Cameroon and Chad against the terrorist threat.
