Chantal Biya shows commitment to Citizenship Education

As one of the first lady Chantal Biya's initiatives for young people, the youth from all 10 regions of the country were brought together on Sunday to launch a concept, 'All citizens'.

'All citizens' is the new concept proposed by the wife of the head of State, Chantal Biya, to the Cameroon youth as part of the celebration of their feast, National Youth Day slated for February 11.

It is a campaign of education for citizenship through a deck of cards. The principle is simple, it is a session for testing and improving the level of knowledge of the Cameroonian youth in various areas.

Among other things, the history of Cameroon, the values and symbols of the Republic, the Organization of social life, respect for others and their differences, the protection of the environment were discussed. These concerns included questions about the humanitarian action of the first lady.

For the purposes of this case, two candidates from each region, making a total of 20 young people, will compete in the national finals. Candidates, from secondary education, are retained on the basis of the latest rankings of the Office for the baccalaureate of Cameroon.

The final national, planned from 1 to 9 February 2015 in Yaoundé, will take place in five towers grouped in three shows recorded at the Multipurpose Sports Palace. It will be complemented by the provision of renown artists, selected with regard to the cultural and linguistic diversity of the country.

Musicians and comedians are chosen on the basis of their fame on the national cultural scene. Beyond these recordings, the game 'All citizens' candidates will visit the new-look national museum on 3 February.

The game required participants to present boxes containing a series of questions and answers listed on maps printed in the national colours: green, red, yellow.

10,000 kits were produced, at the rate of 7,000 in French, 2,800 in French, and 200 in Braille, in support of the campaign. They will be distributed in all 10 regions.

This campaign of education for citizenship is the icing on the cake of the 20 years of the humanitarian action of the Cameroonian first lady, Chantal Biya, Goodwill Ambassador of Unesco for education and social inclusion.

This is not the first time that the wife of the head of State has expressed her interest in education for citizenship.
