The Questor at the National Assembly, Hon. Njingum Musa, has said a war is likely to break out as the 2018 municipal and legislative elections approach.
“I supervised the ongoing re-organisation of the basic organs of the CPDM and I also followed with the keen interest reports from other regions in the country, and my observations are that if we are not careful, militants will eat each other,” said Njingum Musa, MP for Ngoketunjia Division.
According to Hon. Njingum, now that mayors and their deputies will receive salaries and other allowances, it won’t be easy at all in 2018.
“I am afraid that some people gunning for mayoral positions will fight to eliminate each other. That is the type of war or skirmishes I see coming and we have to watch out if we must preserve the peace we are enjoying and avoid anything that will pit brother against brother,” Hon. Njingum said.
The Ngoketunjia MP was addressing councilors and local administrative officials of Babessi Sub-division recently during a budgetary session meeting. He spoke well of Mayor Cho Bouba Isa who was defeated by a councillor during the re-organisation of the CPDM party.
Njingum said the political maturity displayed by Cho Bouba Isa before during, and after elections should be emulated by those entering into politics.
“If we don’t behave ourselves, there will be serious war in 2018 because I see some people already preparing for the worst,” Njingum said.
On the achievements of the council, Njingum said though the Mayor has realized a lot of projects since he was elected, he finds it difficult to forgive councillors whom he termed ingrates who can never see or appreciate any good thing.
He said even if you give such people the whole world, they would not be satisfied.
Before presenting the 2016 budget, Cho Bouba appreciated the councillors and the administration of Babessi for their collaboration and urged the councillors to intensify revenue recovery and desist from protecting relatives who evade tax.
The Mayor announced that the Korean government would tackle the Babessi Water Scheme. Other ongoing projects include a new council hall to cost FCFA 253 million and construction of market sheds in villages of the Sub-division.
The Babessi Council draft budget for 2016 stands at FCFA 719 million up from FCFA 625 million in 201. Bouba said the budget increased by FCFA 94 million because the council widened its tax base and had acquired some revenue-generating projects.
Recurrent budget stands at FCFA 431 million, and investment budget will consume FCFA 288 million.
The budget is backed by an annual investment plan of 32 projects.
