China Seeks to Strengthen Audiovisual Cooperation

The People's Republic of China is ready to assist Cameroon in the switch over to digital technology in the country's audiovisual media in order to improve on the production of programmes, as well as news gathering, processing and dissemination.

The Director of International Cooperation Office in the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television in China (SARFT), Ma Li at the head of a visiting delegation, discussed with Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang during a Star Building audience in Yaounde yesterday, October 30, 2012. SARFT is an executive branch under the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Its main task is the administration and supervision of state-owned enterprises engaged in the television, radio and film industries.

Talking to the press after the audience, Ma Li said they were honoured to be received by the Prime Minister, stating that, "We discussed how we can strengthen cooperation in the media to promote economic and social development." China, Ma Li said, was ready to share its expertise and experience with Cameroon in digital broadcasting.

Prime Minister Philemon Yang, the Chinese official disclosed, expressed the delight and readiness of the Cameroon government to work with companies from China to achieve the digital switch over in the country. In their quest for cooperation, the Chinese are ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on key areas to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the audiovisual sector. The Chinese delegation earlier had discussions with the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary on October 29. Their visit that started on October 27 is programmed to end today, October 31.
