Chinese Foreign Minister due in Cameroon soon

The Minister of External Relations on January 2, 2015 received the Chargé d’Affaires in the Chinese Embassy as well as the Turkish Ambassador.

As a sign of the growing ties between Cameroon and China, the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, is expected in the country as from January 12, 2015.

Making the disclosure in Yaounde on Friday, January 2, 2015 after meeting the Minister of External Relations, Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, the Chargé d’Affaires in the Chinese Embassy, Mrs. Lu Qingjiang, said they also discussed relations between the two countries. While pledging to continue to work together with Cameroon in 2015, the Chargé d’Affaires announced that relations between the two countries this year will focus on politics, economy and security.

Minister Moukoko Mbonjo also met with the Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency Ömer Faruk Dogan. The latter said he came to extend his best wishes for 2015 to the Minister, but they also discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador congratulated President Paul Biya for his nation-wide address of December 31, 2014, in which he talked about strengthening the fight against terrorism, which inhibits development and Cameroon’s envisaged economic emergence by 2035. He restated Turkey’s readiness to assist Cameroon attain economic emergence as well as fight terrorism.

His Excellency Ömer Faruk Dogan expressed hope that Cameroon’s unity will be further strengthened this year; that 2015 will see the restoration of peace in the country, which is a model in the Central African sub-region. He said he believes that stability in Cameroon will enable other countries in the sub-region to also seek peace and security to foster their development.

The diplomat also talked about his country’s new projects beginning in Cameroon in the first quarter of 2015, restating Turkey’s readiness to continue to stand by Cameroon as a trustworthy trade partner.
