A training on income-generating activities ended in Douala on July 10, 2014.
Gone are the days when women took their status as housewife as a profession. With the advancement in technology and the ever-growing women population in posts of responsibility, the Department of the Union of Christian Women (DUFC) in the Evangelical Church of Cameroon (EEC) are not out of the trend.
Through church hierarchy, the Development Committee of the Women’s Union, DUFC, organised a capacity-building workshop to train women on income-generating activities.
The four-day intensive training equipped participants with techniques in dyeing, production of natural manure, perfume, mobile phone carrier, baobab milk, vinegar and some cooking skills.
Talking at the end of the workshop on Thursday, July 10, 2014, the National President of DUFC, Mbatchou Henriette, said it will empower the women to be self-employed, render them financially autonomous as well as alleviate poverty in their milieu.
The president enjoined participants to train other women who could not make it to Douala when they retire to their various regions.
Maximin Tapoko, who is in charge of project follow-up and the Head of the Development Committee, Marie Theresse Houmba, challenged the Christian Women to put what they had learnt in practice and impact the lives of others.
The workshop that held on the theme, “Development of income-generating activities and poverty alleviation,” saw the participation of women from 18 ecclesiastical regions throughout the national territory.
