Cameroon plans to double production of cocoa by 2020 and boost the amount of the crop that is ground locally.

Output will rise to 600,000 metric tonnes from 240,000 tonnes this year, Michael Ndoping, managing director of the National Office for Cocoa and Coffee, said in Abidjan, Ivory Coast’s commercial capital.

The government wants to see 40 percent of the crop ground locally from 12 percent now, he said.

Cameroon is the world’s sixth-largest producer of the chocolate-making ingredient. Ivory Coast, Ghana, Indonesia and Nigeria and Ecuador are the other five biggest producers.
