The Minister, Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Republic, Chairman of the National Committee for the Organisation of the Fiftieth Anniversary Celebrations of Independence and Reunification of Cameroon, Martin Belinga Eboutou,has instructed all enterprises engaged in the various projects to finish them by the end of May 2013.
"I will be back in June just to observe that all works are completed and finalized," he said yesterday, May 6 in Buea during a working session after visiting the various ongoing projects. He gave particular instructions to the CAMWATER authorities to complete water supply system in Buea and that no area in Buea should lack water again.
Accompanied to Buea by the Minister of State for Tourism and Leisure, Bello Bouba Maigari, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo, among a host of representatives of various ministries involved, Mr Belinga Eboutou concluded his fact-finding visit delighted that preparations were near completion for the event. Talking to reporters, he said the works were advancing well and that the celebration can already take place. "The ceremonial ground is ready, the hotels to host the guests will be ready by the end of May, the call of the Head of State has been respected and we will soon meet for the feast," he remarked. Martin Belinga Eboutou told contractors concerned that the State having ordered the works to be done, the contractors should nurse no fears because their jobs will be paid. He warned that any contractor taking a job with the State must be financially viable to carry on the works before complete payment. The various committees reported progress of work on the field but the only fears remain pegged on electricity and water supplies.
Major worries
Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai took time to hammer the point of water and electricity supplies which remain problematic. He frowned at the various false promises earlier made by authorities of these sectors and pleaded with the National Committee to intervene.
On arrival in Buea at 9:50 a.m. yesterday, Minister Belinga Eboutou immediately led his convoy to visit the Muea- Buea town road under construction, the Parliamentarian Flats and the Mountain Hotel situated opposite each other on the Bokwaongo road. The Committee delegation equally visited the Tole-Malingo road and made a stop over at the Official Grand Stand in Clerks' Quarters. The Reunification Monument for Buea earmarked to cost over FCFA 755 million and the open air amphitheatre to cost more than CFA 350 million, however remain uncertain.
