The Committee charged with the fight against urban disorder in the Wouri Division dubbed “Plateforme d’actions de lutte contre le désordre urbain et de la protection civile” under the auspices of the Senior Divisional Officer, Naseri Paul Bea, undertook its routing inspection in some areas known to spearhead disorder in the port city.

The first stop of the 12th edition took the team to Newtown Aéroport in the Douala III Municipality where mechanic workshops for heavy duty vehicles located closer to the carriage way were asked to leave. Some owners after benefiting a month of administrative tolerance left while a lady who proved stubborn was place under questioning in Bonanjo.

At the famous Ndokoti Junction where the Douala City Council demolished makeshift shops few days back, the committee noticed the area has been liberated as for few obstinate traders who still occupied part of pedestrian track.

On-the-spot, the Municipal Police seized some goods while other traders managed to flee after noticing the convoy. The story was the same at the Amadou Ahidjo Boulevard where a good number of shoes, dresses, jewellery, and a photocopy machine were grabbed by furious municipal police.

Later on in a working session, the SDO for Wouri expressed satisfaction on work done so far. He said the congestion and urban disorder along the Mboppi Market has been drastically reduced, while the Ndokoti Junction has as well been cleared of clandestine shops along pedestrian track and blind bends.

He announced the takeoff of three additional Police Post to check urban disorder and criminality in Ndokoti. To the number two of the Committee, Dr, Fritz Ntone Ntone, the platform to fight against urban disorder has been effective with it routine monthly field check.

He mentioned that a Mobile Intervention Team equipped with bicycles, motorcycles and pickups will hence carry out a daily inspection in order to eliminate disorder in the port city. On hygiene and sanitation, a competition to choose the cleanest council area will be launched in December.

Earlier, the convoy drove to the accident site at Cité de Palmiers in the Douala III Municipality where an interurban transport vehicle fondly called “cargo” killed six passengers and a cyclist after brake failure on October 29
