Commonwealth Day celebration kicks off in Yaounde

Cameroon will join 52 other members of the Commonwealth family today, March 12, 2015 in celebrations marking Commonwealth Day 2015.

According to a press release issued by the Secretary General of the Ministry of External Relations, Felix Mbayu, the official commemorative event will be presided over by the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, on the theme, “A Young Commonwealth,” in Yaounde.


Commemorative activities that have been organised throughout the national territory from Monday, March 9, 2015, will climax with the celebration today.


Today’s event will be punctuated by keynote addresses, presentation of prizes, presentations of winners of the Commonwealth Queen’s Young Leaders’ Award as well as the winner of the Commonwealth Youth Workers’ Award.

A “Commonwealth Village” Exhibition will also be held to display the good state of relations between the Commonwealth and Cameroon as well as opportunities the Commonwealth offers to youths.


In an interview, Minister Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo stressed on the main topics for this year’s commemoration.
