The Chair, M.I. Abdool Rahman, was received by Prime Minister Philemon Yang on October 3, 2013.
The Commonwealth Expert Team to Cameroon for the September 30, 2013 council and legislative elections led by its Chair, M.I. Abdool Rahman yesterday October 3, 2013 held talks with Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang.
He told reporters after discussions with the Prime Minister that their mission to Cameroon was just to observe, have an assessment of the situation and also draft a report on the conduct of the elections. He said, "We were deployed to Douala, Bamenda and Yaounde and our experts are back. We are now working on the report that will be submitted to the Commonwealth Secretariat."
Abdool Rahman said their mandate does not permit them to give preliminary observations. He however said recommendations would be made but that they will be reported to the Secretary General of the Commonwealth. Their findings, he said will be ready in a report within one month.
He was however pleased with the establishment of an independent electoral body- Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) following engagements between the Commonwealth and Cameroon. M.I Abdool Rahman was accompanied to the Star Building by the Interim Political Affairs Officer at the Africa Section, Diane Mensah-Bonsuh teammate to Cameroon for twin polls.
