The new member Mohamadou Boubakar was appointed on September 9, 2013.
The Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM goes into the final stages of the September 30, 2013 twin legislative and municipal elections complete with the appointment of the Mohamadou Boubakar.
President Paul Biya appointed him on September 9, 2013 to replace Ahmadou Gouroudja who died earlier this year. The appointment of Mohamadou Boubakar completes ELECAM Board members to 18. The 44-year old Mohamadou Boubakar before his appointment was the Secretary of Islamic Education for the North Region.
The Electoral Board plays a key role in ELECAM, the independent body responsible for the organization, management and supervision of election and referendum operations in Cameroon. With all its members present, the board will effectively carry out the mission stated in Section 10 (1) of the Electoral Code, "The Electoral Board shall ensure the compliance with the electoral law by all stakeholders for the purpose of guaranteeing regular, impartial, free, fair, transparent and credible polls."
In the remaining stages of the September 30 polls, the board will have to ensure the timely publication and notification of the list of members of local polling commissions to the appropriate persons specified in the electoral law, notably representatives of lists of candidates or candidates.
