The government of Cameroon, through the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (MINEFOP), has signed a partnership agreement with the Pan-African Institute for Development (PAID)

in view of improving vocational training and facilitating access to decent jobs by those to benefit from the training, notably youth. MINEFOP boss, Zacharie Perevet and the Secretary General of PAID penned the agreement in the conference hall of the Ministry last Wednesday August 7, 2013.

Minister Perevet said the partnership entails working in synergy with PAID to ensure job-oriented trainings in the country and reducing unemployment which remains a major headache to government. "Through this agreement, the two institutions are to put in place a training programme and job creation for youth by developing entrepreneurial spirit in sectors identified as purveyors or self employment as well as for decent and sustainable salaried jobs," the Minister said. The supplementary initiative to ongoing efforts in curbing youth unemployment and underemployment in the country, Mr Perevet noted, is within the framework of ongoing giant and growth-induced projects in the country wherein youth could find jobs but who are often found wanting vis-à-vis the demands of the jobs. The training, he said, could guarantee the availability of necessary competences needed in different worksites across the country. The Minister said the MINEFOP-PAID partnership, like others, seeks to federate efforts of diverse institutions under one objective - decent and sustainable jobs.
